Good Morning Prior Lake Rotarians, and Happy New Year!
2011 was a great year for the Prior Lake Rotary club…we were able to successfully complete a well digging project in The Gambia, we started a STRIVE program here in Prior Lake, we were able to help fund a Tilapia farm in Haiti, we contributed to a number of organizations throughout our Prior Lake area to help them succeed, we had a great DARE Day where we raised more than $40,000 for our DARE program, had a heck of a good time while raising money at our Valentine’s Gala and braved the elements to have a fantastic 2nd Lakefront Jazz and Blues Fest, while reestablishing a foundation for the future of the event. That seems like a great year that we should all be proud of!
What will 2012 bring? The guess here is that even more success!
· LAST WEEK’S MEETING: We had 32 Rotarians at our meeting last week, and the program was Scott County Engineer Mitch Rasmussen, who gave us a lot of information about road projects throughout the County and how those projects have greatly reduced accidents at each spot.
· THIS WEEK’S MEETING: Jody Allen Crowe, Executive Director, Healthy Brains for Children, will speak on the prevention of prenatal exposure to alcohol. She has researched the connection between adolescents who bring guns to school and commit murders to prenatal exposure to alcohol, culminating in her book, The Fatal Link.
· LAKEFRONT MUSIC FEST RAFFLE AND TICKET SALES: Do you want to be involved in the development of the plans to sell raffle and admission tickets for the Fest? Come to Fong’s Event Center on Thursday night at 7PM (until 8:15) for a very important organizational meeting!
· FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN: Join other members of our club as we head to the FMSC Packing Center in Chanhassen to pack food that will go to children that need it throughout the world. Packing goes from 8-9:30PM, so be there by 7:45 to sign in and get situated!
· DISTRICT MID-TERM JANUARY 14- Want to learn more about what’s going on within our District, or do you want to get re-energized for the 2nd half of the Rotary year? Plan on attending the District Midterm on Saturday Jan 14th.
· LAKEFRONT MUSIC FEST COMMITTEE KICKOFF JANUARY 17- All Committee chairs and members should plan on being at The Wilds on Tuesday, January 17th for the first full committee meeting for this year’s event! There has been a lot going on so far, and there’s a lot of excitement coming up…stay tuned for more!
· VALENTINE’S GALA: Its February 11…which is now about 40 days away. Make sure you are selling your tickets and collecting auction items so it can be a great success!
