Monday Morning Messenger - January 9th

Good Morning Prior Lake Rotarians!

Hopefully everyone is getting in to Valentine’s Gala spirit!  We’re about 35 days from this year’s Gala, so it’s time to start pointing out deadlines.  This Wednesday is a very important one…it’s TABLE LOTTERY DAY at our meeting this Wednesday.  If you want a table in the main ballroom, you’ll need to have your money in Wednesday morning because that’s when the picks will be made!  If you have any questions, contact Dave Card or Bill Schult.

Two other important dates:

·         January 25- LIVE AUCTION ITEM DEADLINE

·         February 1- SILENT AUCTION ITEM DEADLINE

So there’s your Valentine’s Gala update…Happy Selling!  And here’s the rest of the Monday Morning Messenger…

LAST WEEK’S MEETING: We had 40 Members and two guests present at last week’s meeting, and we had Jody Allen Crowe with us to talk about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and how it affects people all the way in to adulthood.  We also passed a bylaw change that will add a President Elect Nominee to our Board structure.  This will help us create more continuity in leadership, and help give our future Presidents more time to learn about their roles which will hopefully help them to lead our club more effectively!

MUSIC FEST MEETINGS: There’s a lot going on with the Music Fest these days, and that was very evident last week with the number of meetings that were held!  The PR/Marketing Committee and the Ticket/Raffle Committee both had key meetings this week, and there’s a lot of energy and excitement building right now.  In fact, you want to make sure you’re at this week’s meeting for a great update on progress!

TUESDAY NIGHT- FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN:  Come to the Chanhassen Feed My Starving Children warehouse to help pack food for kids around the world that wouldn’t have a good meal otherwise.  The fun starts at 7:45 and goes to about 9:30.  Bring the whole family for some good old “do-gooding!”

WEDNESDAY’S CLUB MEETING: It’s an update-centric meeting on Wednesday, as the focus is to provide updates on the Valentine’s Gala AND this year’s Lakefront Music Fest.  As mentioned before…lots going on, and you don’t want to miss this great information.

DISTRICT MID-TERM SATURDAY: It’s not just for Board members…any Rotarian would get something out of the midterm on Saturday, and would be more energized after it too!  Talk to Adam Blahnik if you are interested in going…there’s still time to register!

LAKEFRONT MUSIC FEST COMMITTEE KICKOFF JANUARY 17- All Committee chairs and members should plan on being at The Wilds on Tuesday night, January 17th for the first full committee meeting for this year’s event!  There has been a lot going on so far, and this is the time that even more plans will be put in motion!

DID YOU KNOW??

Our final thought this week will be a little bit of Rotary history.  When Rotary first started, it wasn’t a service organization but rather an organization that the members got together and talked about their vocations.  Shortly after, the founding members realized that in order to grow, the service element had to be included.  The first Rotary service project?  Public toilets in Chicago!
