Monday Morning Messenger - January 16th

Good Morning Prior Lake Rotarians!

We’re getting into the meat of our Rotary year now.  The District mid-term was this weekend and we had a great turnout and were represented very well by our club at the District, we have one fundraiser in full swing, and this week kick off another one!

So speaking of fundraisers…make sure you are pounding the pavement getting your tickets sold and collecting auction items for the Valentine’s Gala, and make plans to come to The Wilds Tuesday night for the kick off to the 2012 Lakefront Music Fest...after hearing some of the plans last Wednesday, it should be an energetic event on Tuesday!

Make sure you read this all the way to the bottom, as there is a great Final Thought that will make you proud to be a Rotarian!  And here’s the rest of this week’s Monday Morning Messenger…

LAST WEEK’S MEETING: We had 40 Rotarians present at last week’s meeting, and we were treated to an update of how our Valentine’s Gala and Music Fest are coming along so far.  Tickets are certainly being moved, and auction items are starting to trickle in for the Gala, so everything is coming along nicely there.  Make sure to remember the LIVE AUCTION ITEM DEADLINE of January 25, and the SILENT AUCTION ITEM DEADLINE of February 1.  As for the Music Fest, we got updates from the PR/Marketing, Raffle/Ticket Sales and Talent Committees.  Want to know who our headliners are going to be?  Come to The Wilds on Tuesday night!

DISTRICT MID-TERM: We had 8 Club members attend the Mid-term in different capacities, and once again showed how much our club does and how involved we are.  We should be very proud to call ourselves Prior Lake Rotarians!

MUSIC FEST KICKOFF: Tuesday night, 7PM at The Wilds is the place to be for all club members!  Invite your spouses/significant others as well, as this won’t be a “nuts & bolts” meeting, but rather an energetic kickoff to get us excited to move forward with this year’s Fest.  It’ll be a great one!  Light appetizers and a cash bar will be available.

THIS WEEK’S CLUB MEETING: Our program on Wednesday is something called “Destination Imagination.”  What does that mean?  Looking at our website, it doesn’t have any description, but with a name like that you know it’s going to be interesting!

DARE GRADUATION 1/26:  All club members are invited to attend the latest DARE Graduation for the 5th graders at Grainwood, Westwood, and St. Michaels.  Graduation takes place at Grainwood Elementary at 1PM on Thursday January 26th.  Our club has been a great supporter of the DARE Program in Prior Lake for 23 years, and this is a great way to show support for the kids!

VALENTINES GALA 2/11- In case you forgot, remember that the second Saturday in February is Gala Day!  Make sure you are getting your tickets sold and auction items collected!

FINAL THOUGHT:  On Friday, the push to eradicate Polio throughout the world hit an important milestone.  It marked the one year anniversary of the last case of Polio in India, which used to be known as the “epicenter” of the Polio virus.  Because of the work of Rotarians who have spearheaded the campaign against Polio, there are only three countries left that are endemic with Polio: Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.  With your help in promoting and contributing to Polio Plus, we can eliminate Polio from these countries as well!
