Monday Morning Messenger - January 23rd

Good Morning Prior Lake Rotarians!

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Messenger!  We had a great week last week (see below for details), and in two weeks it’ll be a great week as well.  We’ll be meeting at the Mystic Meadows Grille for our public kick-off to the 2012 Lakefront Music Fest!  What does that mean?  BREAKFAST WILL NOT BE AT THE WILDS, BUT WE WILL MEET AT MYSTIC MEADOWS GRILLE.  Please plan accordingly!

Here’s this week’s Messenger…

BOARD MEETING LAST TUESDAY: The Board met for their January meeting at City Hall on Tuesday morning.

MUSIC FEST KICKOFF TUESDAY NIGHT: We had about 40 people at The Wilds on Tuesday night for the first meeting to the Music Fest Committee!  Several committee chairs gave updates on their progress, and there was a brainstorming session about all of the things that need to be done over the next 6 months as well.

WEDNESDAY’S MEETING: We had 42 members to start the meeting, and that number increased to 43 when Jim Gruver was inducted as a new member of our club!  It was a very special meeting, as we had SMSC Vice Chair Glynn Crooks with us to present a check for $50,000 to our club for the SMSC and Mystic Lake Presenting Partner Sponsorship of our Lakefront Music Fest!

In our program, we had Alex and Natalie Doud with us to talk about Destination Imagination, which is a program for students that combine creativity and science to help kids in a competition to see who can come up with the best idea for a project that is assigned by the judges.

Also, President Elect Adam Blahnik proposed his Board for the upcoming year, and it was unanimously approved.  Congrats to next year’s Board for their election!

THIS WEEK’S MEETING: Kevin Burkart shares his journey through his inspiring, record breaking odyssey of doing 100 skydives in a day, attempting 200 skydives in a day, and on June 19, 2012 he's going to do 300 skydives in a day to raise funds for Parkinson's Disease.

DARE GRADUATION THURSDAY:  All club members are invited to attend the latest DARE Graduation for the 5th graders at Grainwood, Westwood, and St. Michaels.  Graduation takes place at Grainwood Elementary at 1PM on Thursday January 26th.  Our club has been a great supporter of the DARE Program in Prior Lake for 23 years, and this is a great way to show support for the kids!

VALENTINE’S GALA:  Did you think the Messenger would end without a reminder about the Gala, which takes place on Feb 11?  How about the reminder that THIS WEDNESDAY IS THE LIVE AUCTION ITEM DEADLINE!!  Silent Auction items…you have until Feb 1.

Have a great week!
