44 Rotarians heard Mike and Martha Port share their experiences in designing the Solar Oven and the benefits of solar cooking.

The Solar Oven Society exists to promote solar cooking to the American public and to provide a way to partner with the over 2 billion people worldwide who lack adequate fuel for cooking their food.

Persons Helping People (PHP) (the sponsor of the Solar Oven Society) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation established in 1991 and based in Minnesota. Following the wishes of its first donor, Virginia Persons, PHP is dedicated to helping alleviate hunger in developing countries by helping people help themselves.

The Solar Oven Sport comes with all the accessories needed to cook, except the food! These include:

  • 2 - 3.4Qt. (3.0 L) black, enameled pots with lids
  • 1 thermometer with F & C scales
  • An instructiion manual that includes recipes
  • 1 WAPI (Water Pasteurization Indicator) that confirms when water is safe to drink.
