‘Tis the season of giving and The Rotary Club of Prior Lake has embraced that notion with open arms. Recently, two $1,000 donations were given to Bridges Area Learning Center to assist students and their families during the holiday season, and to School District #719 for K-12 families in need.

But The Rotary Club’s giving goes beyond the holiday season.  The presentation of checks is a common occurrence at our weekly Wednesday meetings. Other organizations receiving donations during the past six months include the Laker Education Foundation, River Valley YMCA’s South of the River Roundup, Bridging, Habitat for Humanity, the Hidden and Twin Oaks Middle Schools (for library book purchases), Kop Family Community Garden, and the First Lego Robotics League.

Donation requests are deliberated and approved by our Community Service committee. The committee uses a set of guidelines when making decisions about which requests will be fulfilled. Requests should come from established, non-profit organizations - preferably 501(c)(3) status; should support ongoing programs or projects with a specific purpose; programs or projects should be receiving other private funding; the projects should serve the residents of the City of Prior Lake, its surrounding townships and Scott County; the projects should have a lasting impact; and projects should improve academics, community and environmental health, or provide assistance to disadvantaged groups. For more information about our donation guidelines or to make a request, visit the “About Our Club” tab of our Club's website at www.priorlakerotary.org.
